Five Kinds of People Eating Only Food in the Alms Bowl

Alms bowl is one of the simplest but most important things in the daily lives of Buddhist Monks. It is basically a practical object, used as a bowl in which to collect food offerings from lay people Since the time of the Buddha, lay people have been supporting the Sangha with food, robes, shelter and medicine. Therefore, almsgiving has been a beautiful tradition as well as an important practice in Buddhism. Buddhist Monks practise the Dharma, put on the orange clad robes, hold the alms bowl and go on alms rounds to carry on the mission of propagating the Dharma in order to delight and benefit all beings. The Buddha taught: “There are five kinds of people eating only food in the alms bowl”. What five? And what is the motivation behind their practice? What kind of people would be praised by the Buddha? Watch the video below to have a deeper understanding about their practices from the teachings of Thay Thich Truc Thai Minh.
