Five seeds in mind help us be happy
1. Love
We must cultivate love in this life. Love is the mind of the Buddha. It makes all sorrow, hatred, and suffering melt away.
2. Rejoicing in good deeds
Envying those with auspicious blessings makes us lose our own and brings us more anger. Therefore, as Buddhist practitioners, when we rejoice in others good deeds, we will naturally eliminate suffering and bring joy for ourselves. The Buddha taught: “Those who rejoice in others good deeds gain blessings as great as those who perform them."
3. Giving
When we give pleasurable and lovable things, we will receive pleasurable and lovable things. Therefore, for anyone who has pleasurable and lovable things, this means that people in their previous lives gave agreeable and lovable things. Conversely, for those who encounter many unpleasant things in this life may not have cultivated giving many pleasurable and lovable things.
4. Perseverance
Perseverance and persistence are indispensable qualities for any success in life.
5. Living with contentment
Those who cleverly practice Buddhism see whatever they have as enough. If they have little, they live modestly; if they have a lot, they share with those in need. They clearly see that material things are just temporary and used to sustain the body to be healthy, so that we can progress in our practice, not to take them as the main purpose for life. If we live content with what we have, then we will have more joy, but if we do not know how to be content, we will suffer forever.
