“See the Buddha” - The Milindapanha
The King said:
“How is the Dharma that the Perfectly Enlightened One taught?”
Venerable Nāgasena replied:
“O King, for the Dharma that the Ten-Power-and-Wisdom One taught, whoever hears and practices it correctly and realizes it, is called a “śrāvaka” of the Buddha (lit. "listener," or "hearer," and refers to a direct disciple of the Buddha who "listened" to his teachings). To see the Dharma is to see the Buddha.”
The king said:
“Is that true?”
Venerable Nāgasena said:
“O King, it was the World Honored One who taught: ‘Whoever sees the Dharma sees the Thus Come One (Tathāgata), and whoever sees the Thus Come One sees the Dharma.' At that moment, they will no longer have doubts or questions about Nirvana, the Buddha's manifestation and his virtue, wisdom, preeminence, and supremacy.”
The king said:
“I hope so, too. But Venerable, please do not speak so harshly to me.”
Venerable Nāgasena said:
“O King, I would not dare.”
