“How incomparable is the Buddha?” - The Milindapanha
The king said:
“Is it possible, Venerable Nãgasena, for others to know how incomparable the Buddha is?”
“Yes, O King, it is possible for others to know how incomparable the Buddha is.”
“But how is it possible, Venerable Nãgasena, for others to know the Buddha is incomparable?”
“Long, long ago, O King, there was a master of writing named Tissa the Elder, and many years have passed since he died. How is it that he is known?”
“By his writing, Venerable.”
“Just so, O King, whoever sees the Dharma sees the Blessed One, for the Dharma was taught by the Blessed One.”
“Very good, Venerable Nãgasena!”
