Godly Well - A sacred source of fresh water on the mountain
The Godly Well is an ancient and sacred site. You can request holy water from the well or take some home for offerings, worship, drinking, etc., to pray for health and for your family to always be peaceful and happy.
The name “Godly Well” is of unknown origin, but it is certainly a fitting one. Word has it that since this place was still in ruins, there was a belief that on New Year's Eve, anyone who drank water from the Godly Well would feel blissful in their hearts and experience many good things in the coming year.
Local folklore also claims that the Well's water can cure diseases, even incurable ones. For this reason, locals have long trekked up to the Pagoda to collect the water home despite the high mountains.
Nowadays, during major ceremonies at Ba Vang Pagoda, domestic and foreign visitors visit the Godly Well to ask for a sip of water for themselves and bring it to their relatives, in addition to sightseeing and paying homage to the Buddha.
The water in the Godly Well is fresh, cool, and pure. Despite its location on a mountain 340 meters above sea level, its level is always about two meters.
According to archaeological findings, Ba Vang Pagoda dates back to the Tran dynasty, a golden period of Vietnamese Buddhism. Though the old pagoda was eroded by time and war, only the Godly Well remains unchanged.
