Life of Monks: Challenging But NobleThe life of a monk may look simple but in fact, it is full of hardships and challenges. At Ba Vang Pagoda, bhikshus adopt the practice of cultivating themselves in the forest. They must overcome their own desires, the fear of harmful animals such as snakes, mosquitoes and the harsh weather. Hard as it seems, this ascetic life of a monk will lead the practitioners to full enlightenment because this is the noble way of winning over oneself as the Buddha taught in the Dhammapada: “Even though on battlefields, Defeating thousands of enemies, Is not as precious as winning against ourselves. That is the true supreme victory.”
